Why this petition matters

Started by Alicia Naicker

Polygamy and Polyamory deserve marriage protections that Americans have enjoyed for years without question. Polygamy is currently banned in all 50 states, and the decriminalization of it opens up the potential for regulation and greater protections and rights secured for those practicing plural marriage. These rights should also be granted to those who are openly polyamourous, as they are deserving of similar protections while also being members of the LGTBQ community. The right to be married to another person should be permitted by free choice, not the scope of the law. Help make a change in order to decriminalize polygamy and give plural families and couples the rights to live freely in society. We should no longer accept a legal precedent which aims to further stigmatize their lifestyles and their freedom to choose. With greater social acceptance, we can promote legal regulation and representation to ensure that all individuals have equal rights to marriage.
