Aasim Nia T-80306 is serving a 50 years with 2 life sentences for 1st Degree Premeditated Murder for an offense he committed when he was 21years of age. The trial judge in open court stated that Nia should not have been found guilty of 1st Degree Murder. The trial judge and appellant court all had the power to reduce Nia’s sentence but failed to do so. I believe this was done because of the disparity in sentencing African Americans. Fair is fair, and it should be applied equally across the board. Discretionary laws are loop holes to free rich or white people. While others suffer harsh sentences. Nia did less than George Zimmerman but is being punished to the full extent of the law. 
Since Nia’s incarceration he has earned multiple A.A. degrees and has participated in multiple self help groups to address the issues he was dealing with. This was the 1st and only felony Nia ever committed. Nia has changed and we want him home. We love him and miss him dearly.
