Victoria Pratt started this petition to Ritenour School District

Hello! My name is Victoria Pratt and I created this petition in hopes that as a community we could change the dress code in schools specifically towards women. On the Ritenour website administration directly states in their dress code policy “Ritenour students are expected to come to school and any school activity dressed neatly in clothes appropriate for the weather and according to district policies.” When saying that statement, you would think that that implies tank tops would be aloud during summer. Especially due to the fact that temperatures can get very high, but it does not. The dress code that Ritenour, as a whole, would like us to follow completely contradicts that whole statement. It is very hypocritical of them to say they would like us to dress in a manner appropriate for the weather and then not allow us to wear tank tops, crop tops, and any other clothes that aren’t revealing of any sort. Especially when it isn’t a problem that men wear the same thing. Not to mention their cheerleaders, basketball players, and other sports teams all wear clothes that go against their own dress code. We are no different from men. Our shoulders, our chest, and the slightest bit of our stomach is not revealing and does not need to be looked at in a sexual manner. Considering it’s normal and everyone has shoulders, chest, and a stomach. It is not fair towards women. There has been a lot of the boys at Ritenour that state women wearing tank tops, crop tops, or any thing of the sort has never been a distraction to them. What women wear never seems to be brought up or looked at in a sexual manner unless it comes from administration saying something about it. As an example, my older sister was in first grade when she got pulled aside and was put into a long sleeve shirt in the dead heat of summer all because she was in a shirt that was too revealing for the schools liking. A first grader. A 6 year old girl. I think it’s a especially ridiculous rule for kids in elementary school. It definitely interferes and is distracting when an elementary student is pulled aside and expected to change not knowing what they are wearing is considered wrong. Me along with many other people believe that this rule is not fair towards women and Ritenour should implement a change. It is understood by all women that there is a boundary that should not be crossed when it comes to clothing in schools, but as I said wearing tank tops, crop tops, and any of of the sort that is not revealing is not crossing any boundaries and many others agree. Please do better and implement a dress code that is actually reasonable for a female to dress comfortably in the summer, as YOU guys said you would like.
