Save Port Beach
Save Port Beach

Support the campaign to Save Port beach. The review is now released and there are 4 options. Make sure the local and state government act on the option that gives the best solution to the people- save the beach for all to use.
Without immediate action, the beach will disappear in the next 12 months, never to return!
The report has 4 different options discussed;
1. Retreat and Protect- managed retreat. This means abandoning the Beach and retreating to the road, ie no more beach! this is the current Fremantle council position. Cost (NPV= net present value) $8.5 million
2. Protect. Relocating a small section of the carpark and building a wall around existing infrastructure to maintain them. This does not have a beach solution though. Cost $7.3 million
3. Construct headlands or groins in the water, combined with sand nourishment. this provides long term protection and useable beach sections long into the future. Cost $13 million
4. Sand nourishment via dredge. Masses of sand are dredged and put on the beach, creating the highest ranked option to preserve the beach. But requires ongoing maintenance and interruption to the beach. Cost $6 million (higher ongoing).
Option 4 provides the best immediate beach result. Option 3 the best long term solution. Fremantle Council are pushing for the first- Managed Retreat (ie abandon the beach!).
