Rising Above The Injustice... Breaking Our Silence... Fighting Back...
The Issue
I am a single mother of one and survivor of Domestic Violence...
The Justice System is flawed when it comes to protecting those impacted by this issue. Men, women and children are being re-victimized due to the Judges poor decision making and Welfare CPS workers making bad judgement calls that leads to placing our children back in the hands of the abuser...
The purpose of this petition, what are we asking for?
1. That Judges and Lawyers defending victims of domestic violence be Required to have had extensive training in the area of domestic violence before they are allowed to practice law.
2. For the abuser/ deadbeat parent (male or female) to be mandated to put themselves on child support instead of placing the responsibility on the victim to make the other party responsible. ( This will, hopefully, decrease the backed child support that could be owed and that the child will most likely never see).
3. Even if the abuser begins to pay child support, the danger should not be ignored. Visitation should be supervised. The abuser male/female should have completed parenting courses as well as a batters group. And needs to have shown Progress and steady compliance with drug treatment, anger management etc. if applies. (This isn't about money in exchange for visits, its about Safety for the Child and the victim and those involved)
4. Welfare workers that work in the field of Child Protective Services... The individual should be Required to have had experience And Certified training courses over a period of their college career to be allow to make decisions pertaining to Anothers child, that being the child of a domestic violence victim/survivor.
5. That the victim should not be Mandated to stay in the State if the non responsible isn't sharing responsibility of the child/children. And if she/he feels it unsafe to stay, so long as the individual is mentally stable and has a safe place to go, if its in another state, charges Shouldn't be brought against the individual.
6. If the responsible parent has chosen to leave the abusive relationship for the safety of the child/children and the Non responsible party has a history of criminal activity and not Actively being involved in the childs life then termination of rights should be considered. I know this is a far fetch idea but for those of like myself in this situation, sometimes its better...
