Pregnant Then Screwed started this petition to Rishi Sunak MP

Parents across the UK are unable to work when their child is sent home from school due to a Covid case. An employer has no legal obligation to pay their staff should these circumstances arise. This means that thousands of parents, through no fault of their own, do not have access to an income for 2 weeks, with single parents worse effected. Unless the Government steps in to bridge this income gap then we will see thousands of families fall in to poverty, while others will break the Covid rules out of desperation.

That is why Pregnant Then Screwed and Gingerbread are calling on the Government to extend the Track and Trace isolation grant of £500 to parents who are unable to work when their child is sent home from school due to Coronavirus.

We know that millions of families have no savings and live hand to mouth, Covid19 has exacerbated this problem for many. We are hearing from hundreds of parents who are now forced into poverty because a Covid19 case has been identified in their child's school. Data from the Department for Education shows that 21% of schools have sent home pupils due to Covid since September. Parents want to keep working so that they can put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads, but their child needs adult supervision. These families desperately need the support of the Government so that they can do the right thing, and to prevent them from falling into unmanageable debt.
