My name is Victoria wood, I am a full time carer for my disabled mother. The government have made it clear that care for family members should start with the family! I am an experienced carer and I have worked in care for many years. I gave up my job in 2020 to take care of my mother, as she was having to pay for community carers out of the very little money she received in benefits. I think the government are very unfair with the careres allowance payments. They pay me once a month just under £300 then when  I receive universal credit they deduct it out of my entitlement which in theory means I basically get nothing for caring for mum. In the 35 hours I am required to provide care to mum, I could be potentially earning £1500 per month for my family. People like myself have no option to work giving the full time care that we must do, so if the government want more family members to step in to care for loved ones I believe not means testing the carers allowance would encourage more to do so. As a carer we save the tax payer thousands every year but yet the thanks we get is given then taken away again. This needs to change its wrong!
