Why this petition matters

The government are leading us to believe that they are helping with the 80% wages for companies across the UK. They’re on tv wanting plaudits for extending the scheme from 28th February to the 19th March This is not as straightforward that has been made out. The original requirement was the company had a active PAYE number, payroll & the employee to be on or prior to the 28th February. Our Government found a loophole companies now also require the submission of RTI reports on or prior the 19th March. This information was not updated on the HMRC until afterwards. Leaving companies being rejected from the scheme due to them running payroll on later dates as they would normally.

This could reach 200,000 employees. These people are now in limbo as universal credits are rejecting them leaving people to turn to food banks to survive.

We must call for our Government to move the date to the 30th to make sure we’re helping everyone

Now for those who don’t what the purpose of a RTI this is the breakdown. In April 2012 HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) began the phased introduction of Real Time Information (RTI). The Income Tax (Pay As You Earn) Regulations 2003 (PAYE Regulations) were amended to reflect reporting in real time. Under RTI, information about tax and other deductions under the PAYE system is transmitted to HMRC by the employer every time an employee is paid. Employers using RTI are no longer required to provide information to HMRC using Forms P35 and P14 after the end of the tax year, or to send Forms P45 or P46 to HMRC when employees start or leave a job. Since April 2014 all employers have been required to report in real time with 1.9 million schemes covering 48 million employees now reporting through.

So this show there is no actual need for the RTI report it’s only purpose is to prevent people from getting money they need.
