District Attorney drop the charges of Disorderly Conduct (Disturbing the Peace) and Assault (attempted battery) against Riley Del Rey in T-4-Cr-2018-001782.
Riley Del Rey was arrested for protesting Michelle Lujan Grisham's gubernatorial campaign speech at the Democratic State Convention on March 10, 2018. Riley was arrested for disturbing the peace, despite behaving similarly to others around her that were not arrested. The officers complaint reads that Michelle's campaign had notified police Riley was at the convention and would disrupt her speech. Riley spent the night in jail and had an arraignment on Monday March 26, 2018 with Jude Cosgrove-Aguilar in Metropolitan Court.
Patricia Williams, Attorney for Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham attended the hearing to influence the proceedings.
Michelle Lujan Grisham's attorney Patricia Williams had not business being at the hearing since this was a criminal arraignment and not a civil matter. Ms. Williams conferences with the DA, handing the DA motions, telling the DA to staple the documents and hand them to the judge and "evidence" from the campaign. The DA's office has no right to accept civil documents and turn them in to the court as they are there to handle criminal matters not civil matters. The court subsequently also said the Congresswoman would not be mandated to attend the hearing as a witness.
We motion the court to dismiss the charges since Ms. Williams being at the arraignment has already swayed the district attorney from Ms. Del Rey getting a fair trial because she is the Congresswoman's attorney. We also want to protect Riley's right to free speech and right to assemble.
