Due to recent school boundary changes, children in the sounding area no longer qualify for bus transportation to and from school. It was recently discovered that the transportation department did not conduct a recent safety study before making the decision that our kids can safely walk to and from school. An older safety study from when the kids were zoned to attend Jefferson Elementary was instead submitted and used. Furthermore, when children were zoned for Harwood several years ago, it was deemed unsafe due to the number of cars on 3rd West. To be deemed safe there should be sidewalks the entire way and all crosswalks at intersections need to be clearly marked. Unfortunately this is not the case for all of our children. There are 355 students enrolled at Harwood and only one bus provided. Therefore most of the kids are required to walk or be picked up in a neighborhood that is not designed to be bombarded with so vehicles. There have also been recent scary incidences of children feeling scared and or parents feeling their children are unsafe due to abductions and leary or distracted drivers. The last thing we want is our children's safety to be at risk! Several concerned parents have made phone calls locally but it seems to fall on deaf ears. There is power in numbers! Please continue to advocate for the safety of our children by signing this petition, making calls at the local and  district levels, reporting concerns, and/or submitting pictures or videos of unsafe conditions until they can't ignore us anymore!
