I am a resident of Ridgewood for the past 9.5 years. I’ve always seen the fields get flooded and certain properties receive more damage then others.  We recently moved within Ridgewood & knowingly moved into a flood zone. After spending over 70 days at our new property, we’ve encountered 3 floods, with 1 breaching & flooding our basement & totaling our cars.  After the flood washed away, I could not help but noticed the pedestrian bridge that connects the HS field to Stevens, act like a makeshift dam.  So much so, that it is the exact reason my basement flooded & the fields are a mess.  The BOE owns the fields & the bridge & bears the responsibility of mitigating risk.  The fields were just repaired 2 weeks ago, only to need it again at a very lofty price.  As a tax paying resident, I find it wasteful spending on clean up when their needs a solution.  I was told by engineering department that “they’re worried” about down stream.  Unfortunately the “ down stream” comes at our residents & kids fields expense.  This is a very headscratching way of management.  As global warming increasingly get worse, the intensity of the weather follows.  As concerned residents of Ridgewood that have & continue to be impacted by the floods, we need to unite to create positive change.
