Adam Bage started this petition to Michael Gove (Rt Hon Michael Gove MP)

The UK Government recently introduced a levy on plastic bags at supermarkets (and in all other retail areas) of 5p. The idea behind this initiative was to raise capital and use the funds to combat plastic waste which can't easily be recycled.

I propose we go a step further and call upon the big name Supermarkets (Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Tesco, ASDA & ALDI) to agree a date by which ALL plastic bags will be removed from their stores and replaced with recycled (and recyclable) brown paper bags which can be reused or easily destroyed without causing as much of an impact on the environment.

This is a logical step and is adopted in many foreign countries already.
