The For the People Act will protect everyday citizens’ voting rights, combat the excessive influence of big corporations in electoral politics, weaken partisan gerrymandering, and expand the rules of ethical conduct for our public servants.
Having passed through the House of Representatives, it now faces the 50-50 split Senate. However, with the Senate filibuster rule in place, it will take 60 senators to bring the For the People Act to a successful vote and bring its protections into federal law.
This legislation ought to be bipartisan. According to Data for Progress, 67% of Americans support the For The People Act. Moreover, a majority of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents each support the For The People Act.
As voting citizens of one of the most diverse and politically influential states in The Union, it is our democratic duty to cast aside party allegiance in defense of the inalienable rights of our fellow Americans. The For the People Act can only strengthen our democracy against bad-faith actors within and without. We call upon Florida Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio to vote YES on the For the People Act!
