It is clear that in this day and age, climate change is in fact accelerated or at least altered by human activity. Therefore, it is the responsibility of those in power to steer us into a clear and beneficial direction for energy policy. The president of the USA has refused to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, and the other 190+ nations worldwide, by rejecting the Paris Climate Agreement.
President Trump's lackluster reasoning and constant disregard for scientific data shows us that the time is now to stand up to all who would keep us cemented in the status quo of energy production. Just because it is more beneficial for a company's bottom line doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. The future generations of our species, and every other species on this planet that are affected by climate change, rely on our ability to perfect and constantly improve the efficiency of our society.
Florida is the 'Sunshine State' and yet we lag behind almost half of the country in solar production. We have laws in place that do not encourage solar panel investments by homeowners, whilst lobbyists for local energy companies keep our subsidies for solar weak or non-existent.
This petition is directly aimed at Gov. Rick Scott, who could easily add our state to the United States Climate Alliance, and uphold the worldwide agreement that Barrack Obama initially entered the USA into. On top of adding our state to this alliance, Gov. Scott could encourage solar expansion by allowing and advocating for PPA agreements between homeowners and solar panel sellers.
Companies like SolarCity are revolutionizing the world of rooftop solar, not to mention others like Rayton Solar are still revolutionizing the PV (Photovoltaic) cell manufacturing process to bring down costs and reduce waste. Gov. Scott could encourage investments by these companies and others to expand our current potential for solar energy generation, easily meeting the goals in the Paris Climate Agreement.
We can truly become the Sunshine State and also help the rest of the world in the process.
