Safer on Sandycombe: 20mph + traffic calming in Sandycombe Road
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
Sandycombe Road is a speedster's rat run!
Cars regularly drive in excess of 30, 40, 50 mph or more with collisions, car scrapes and countless near misses. On 29 June 2017 the road was closed for 5-6 hours when a Range Rover ploughed into 4 cars pushing one of them 2m across the pavement and knocking down a wall. The Fire service estimate the Range Rover was travelling in excess of 80 mph!
Any pedestrians (or children in pushchairs) in the path would almost certainly have been killed and the driver is being prosecuted but this and other incidents could and will be much worse. Sandycombe Road is a residential street, not a main highway. It is populated with families, the elderly, small businesses and many others who need to stop in their cars, park for their homes or cross the road. At busy times the road is highly dangerous with impatient drivers
We need a mandatory 20mph as a minimum and other speed / traffic calming measures. Richmond Council is now considering all roads in the borough so please ensure Sandycombe is not overlooked and becomes and even more dangerous rat run. https://www.richmond.gov.uk/council/news/press_office/older_news/december_2017/20mph_limit_could_be_introduced_accross_borough
