On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation Board presented a proposal to close Stinesville Elementary School. While there are many budgetary drivers behind this proposal, the School Board and Superintendent have had little opportunity to invite their constituents to discuss alternatives to keep the school open. We, the families, friends, and community that support Stinesville Elementary School (SES) would like to propose alternatives to closing the school, thus eliminating the need to transfer all students to one campus.
We propose the following: as both Richland and Bean Blossom townships continue to grow, we propose that redistricting is inevitable and a most viable option for the healthy, consistent growth of our school corporation. Even if the alternative is to close Stinesville, redistricting is still a strong possibility for our growing district. This is the opportunity to keep Stinesville - a community school, a community hub, open for generations to come.
We understand that the one campus approach is something the RBB School Board values. We exclaim that the board's proposal for one campus is short-sighted and leaves the communities within Richland and Bean Blossom townships unprepared for certain future growth. We believe that even in the face of challenges within public education, we can do what's right for EPS, EIS, and SES. We can grow as an educationally diverse, healthy, successful, forward-thinking school district with a variety of campuses meeting a variety of educational needs.
If you believe that maintaining two elementary campuses is the right thing to do for the RBB school district, please sign this petition. If you believe we could serve a growing community best by more even distribution of students within the current elementary facilities (SES, EPS, EIS), please sign this petition. If you believe that diverse learning environments are crucial to the survival of public education, please sign this petition. If you recognize the matchless value smaller class sizes have on a child's success, please sign this petition. If you believe that Stinesville Elementary School has a place in our community's future, please sign this petition.
If you believe the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation Board should review and pursue the opportunity to redistrict, in an effort to keep Stinesville Elementary School a part of the school district, please sign this petition.
The community of Stinesville proposes another transportation option in conjunction with the possible redistricting of our townships. We propose the option for bus transfer to occur on the Edgewood campus for students subsequently districted for SES following RBB redistricting. This option could alleviate lengthy bus routes and potentially utilize bus contracts with minor alterations.
We request the RBBCSC School Board and Superintendent DELAY the decision regarding closing Stinesville Elementary until after 01/31/2018 when the Stinesville and Edgewood community can have time to review the long term effect this decision this will have on the entire RBBCSC District. The decision to close SES would be decided on 10/23/2017 if this motion presented by the RBBCSC School Board members were to move forward. It would behoove the RBBCSC School Board to consider input from parents and the community along with the long term effects such a decision will have on all the students in our district and the entire Stinesville and Edgewood community.
