Oggetto: ISTANZA DI SEGNALAZIONE URGENTE E RICHIESTA DI PROVVEDIMENTI DISCIPLINARI E ISPETTIVI IN MERITO ALLE ATTIVITÀ DI COMUNICAZIONE DEL MOVIMENTO DEI FOCOLARI.

Signor Prefetto,

L'Organizzazione Ex Focolari (OREF) desidera sottoporre all'attenzione del Dicastero una questione che concerne il linguaggio utilizzato in una recente pubblicazione di Città Nuova, organo di informazione del Movimento dei Focolari. In data 27 maggio 2026 è stata pubblicata una puntata del podcast "La Chiesa e i miei perché" curata da padre Fabio Ciardi, con il titolo: "Abusi. Come lavare via lo sporco?".

Come associazione che raccoglie numerose persone che hanno vissuto esperienze dolorose all'interno del Movimento dei Focolari, abbiamo ricevuto testimonianze di profonda sofferenza e turbamento da parte di diversi sopravvissuti ad abusi spirituali, psicologici e di coscienza. Molte persone hanno percepito tale formulazione come lesiva della propria dignità e incompatibile con la particolare sensibilità che il tema degli abusi richiede.

Riteniamo che, quando si affrontano questioni così delicate, il linguaggio utilizzato assuma un'importanza decisiva. Espressioni come "lavare via lo sporco" sono metafore inappropriate, perché applicano al tema degli abusi categorie linguistiche che, nella sensibilità di molte persone sopravvissute, possono evocare impurità, vergogna o una qualche forma di contaminazione morale della vittima, mentre gli abusi riguardano persone che hanno subito dei soprusi e meritano di essere riconosciute e ascoltate senza ambiguità.

Questa espressione conferma una tendenza già osservata in altri contesti: si concentra l'attenzione sulle difficoltà o le sofferenze che una determinata situazione produce all'interno del Movimento, piuttosto che sull'esperienza delle persone che ne sono direttamente coinvolte.

Per queste ragioni chiediamo rispettosamente al Dicastero di valutare la rilevanza della questione segnalata e di favorire una riflessione sul linguaggio utilizzato dalle realtà ecclesiali quando affrontano il tema degli abusi. 

Chiediamo inoltre che venga sollecitata una presa di posizione pubblica da parte dei responsabili della pubblicazione del podcast, affinché sia riconosciuto il dolore provocato da tale formulazione e sia riaffermata con chiarezza la centralità del rispetto dovuto a chi è sopravvissuto agli abusi.

Rimettiamo questa nostra formale segnalazione alle responsabilità e alle competenze proprie del Dicastero da Lei presieduto, attendendo atti concreti, verificabili e coerenti con la gravità dei fatti esposti.

**Subject: URGENT REPORT AND REQUEST FOR DISCIPLINARY AND INSPECTION MEASURES REGARDING THE COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES OF THE Focolare Movement**

Your Eminence,

The Organization of Former Focolare Members (OREF) wishes to bring to the attention of the Dicastery a matter concerning the language used in a recent publication by *Città Nuova*, the media outlet of the Focolare Movement. On 27 May 2026, an episode of the podcast *The Church and My Questions*, presented by Father Fabio Ciardi, was published under the title: **"Abuse: How Can We Wash Away the Dirt?"**

As an association representing many people who have had painful experiences within the Focolare Movement, we have received testimonies expressing deep distress and hurt from survivors of spiritual, psychological, and conscience-related abuse. Many people felt that this wording was harmful to their dignity and inconsistent with the sensitivity that the subject of abuse requires.

We believe that when dealing with such delicate matters, the language used is of crucial importance. Expressions such as "wash away the dirt" are inappropriate metaphors because they apply language that, for many survivors, can suggest impurity, shame, or some form of moral contamination on the part of the victim. Abuse concerns people who have suffered wrongdoing and who deserve to be acknowledged and listened to without ambiguity.

This expression also appears to confirm a tendency we have observed in other contexts: attention is focused on the difficulties or suffering that a situation creates within the Movement, rather than on the experiences of the people directly affected by it.

For these reasons, we respectfully ask the Dicastery to consider the seriousness of the matter we are reporting and to encourage reflection on the language used by ecclesial organizations when addressing the subject of abuse.

We also ask that those responsible for the podcast publication be urged to make a public statement acknowledging the pain caused by this wording and clearly reaffirming the importance of respecting those who have survived abuse.

We submit this formal report to the responsibilities and competencies of the Dicastery under your leadership, and we look forward to concrete, verifiable actions consistent with the seriousness of the facts described above.
