The current sentencing guidelines are woefully inadequate as a deterrent to drunk driving and deny equity in justice to the victims and survivors of this callous and senseless crime.
On September 26th, 2016 , 2 of the most amazing people were struck by a wrong way intoxicated driver. They did not survive. The man whom while intoxicated hit them; however, did survive.
Brandon Ray Fernandez was driving the wrong way down Madison Avenue in Sacramento, California, with a blood alcohol level of 0.11, when his vehicle collided explosively head on with the motorcycle Maggie (Marguerite Elizabeth Schooley (Stahl) ) and Christopher (Christopher Kimble) were riding upon, resulting in their deaths while Mr. Fernandez walked away without a scratch. Maggie Schooley was honored by the California state senate on January 9th,2017 for her community service and shook the hands of her family.
since then, the families of the victims have been informed by the
Sacramento District Attorney that Mr. Fernandez is facing an obscenely measly sentence less than four years for the deaths of two people.
This is not meaningful justice. I am asking you to sign this petition in support of The victims stated above as well as other victims and families out there that have or are going thru similar situations.
