Tell LSBA to protect transgender and gender-non conforming lawyers and clients

The LSBA Rules of Professional Conduct Committee is reviewing a new non-discrimination rule of professionalism. This rule would dictate the ways lawyers and courts interact with each other as well as clients, defendants, and anyone else involved in the legal system. It's encouraging to see lawyers attempting to take forward strides in protecting our members and clients from discrimination, but it is very disappointing that the Committee has chosen NOT to protect transgender and gender non-conforming lawyers or clients.
The Committee omitted protection on the basis of gender identity because they didn't want to use "unusual categories/bases for discrimination." Unfortunately, discrimination on the basis of gender identity isn't unusual at all. And they should know that!
Before the proposed rule goes to the Louisiana Supreme Court for approval, the Rules of Professional Conduct Committee is accepting written feedback. Sign this petition to let them know that they must continue their work and ensure that the non-discrimination rule protects all of us.
