Nathan Ramirez started this petition to Senator Richard J. Durbin and

As someone whose lived in Illinois my entire life so far, I hate to see people suffer financially because of the low minimum wage. As of May, 2021, the minimum wage in Illinois is $11 per hour. This is barely enough for people to stay above the poverty line, especially with the high taxes in Illinois, and that isn't even including the number of people who are unemployed due to the pandemic. A solution to this issue could be to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hours as it gives people who are either at or below the poverty line a chance to climb back up financially. Although Officials say that the minimum wage for Illinois will be $15 per hour by 2025, that's 4 years from now and we can't afford to wait that long. It doesn't matter if the money will be raised to $15 by 2025 because the more time we wait means the more time for people to fall even deeper into debt and under the poverty line. By signing this petition we have a chance of having our voices heard by our Representatives, Senators, and even our Governor.
