Shut Down the Surveillance State

Mass security screenings for low-prevalence problems threaten national security according to the National Academy of Sciences. Open-source documents prove the CIA has lied to Congress about these programs. That illegal lying about federal law-breaking should spark a Congressional inquiry, and Congress should shut down the backfiring security programs. These programs include polygraph screening, insider threat, dragnet telecommunications surveillance, and "stop and frisk" policing programs.

Shutting down the surveillance state has the potential to:

- Free billions in federal funding for programs that work instead of programs that backfire.

- Save thousands of lives by making security best practices better.

- Open the door for the American Truth and Reconciliation Commission some suggest is integral for healing the wounds of violence and prejudice in the era of Guantánamo and Ferguson.

- Get us closer as a nation to making good on our shared national dream of liberty and justice for all.
