We currently have restrictions in place requiring helmets for bicycle riding, motorcycle riding, football playing but not for equestrian sports although horse riding is leading cause of sport-related traumatic brain injuries according to a study released by the journal Neurological Focus. Looking at data from the National Trauma Databank between 2003 and 2012, the researchers found that equestrian sports contributed to the highest percentage of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) for adults. https://doi.org/10.3171/2016.1.FOCUS15613
