The death penalty across America, but primarily North Carolina (for this petition), is hypocritical, applied more heavily on minorities, non-beneficial for public safety and fighting homicide rates, and a violation of the basic human right of living. It also runs the risk of executing an innocent person.
This petition will gain supporters to be included in a letter to North Carolina Senate representative Richard Burr to spark a change in the death penalty law, or abolish it completely. 19 states within America have abolished the death penalty, and Ohio is currently in the process. Now is a great time for North Carolina to join them.
