HISD Magnet Defunding

The students, teachers, and parents of your school district have recently heard of the magnet defunding proposal that has been put in play to cover for Hurricane Harvey debt. I speak for all when I say that the debt should be paid for and that the weather truly was a disaster on our great city, but many believe that defunding already sturdy and upright schools is not a good solution to the issue. We understand your reasoning and intentions, but believe that there may be other ways to deal with the debt. Students work hard to make it to any magnet school, and parents have to work hard for students to even achieve such a goal. Not only does this affect Houston's students and their parents, but it affects teachers as well. Teachers, as all people do, work a lot to find the jobs they want. Not only that, but many teachers really do care about their students and the education of our youth. With magnet defunding, teachers have the possibility of losing the job they've wanted and worked so hard to gain. There must be some other way to deal with our debt. In closing, we, the citizens of Houston and HISD, do not want to defund magnet programs and to lose all the work that many people have had to accomplish to get where they are today. We understand your concerns and hope that this will impact your decision. Thank you!
