Why this petition matters

By signing this petition you publicly assert that any option(s) that increase property taxes for Rich Township District 227 residents and/or dislocate Rich Township District 227 students to Lincoln-Way North in Will County are unacceptable. Furthermore, by signing this petition you demand additional information and greater transparency to evaluate a new set of three (3) options that do not increase property taxes for Rich Township District 227 residents and dislocate Rich Township District 227 students.
The Board of Education in Rich Township District 227 (hereinafter: The Board; Board Members Listed Directly Below) are considering CLOSING OUR HIGH SCHOOLS and in the process INCREASING OUR PROPERTY TAXES!

In community forums, moderated by Superintendent Johnnie Thomas, community members and concerned stakeholders have been presented six (6) options (see below). All options CLOSE SCHOOLS, INCREASE PROPERTY TAXES, and/or DISLOCATE OUR STUDENTS TO OTHER COMMUNITIES.
It has become clear that none of these options are in the best interest of the students, residents, and stakeholders of Rich Township District 227. By signing this petition you say NO to the six (6) options presented by The Board and YES to option seven (7)...NONE OF THE ABOVE!
- Option 1: Repair Facilities- No Upgrades (Tax Bill Increase = 3%)
- Option 2: Upgrade All Facilities and Address Facility Needs (Tax Bill Increase = 15%)
- Option 3A: Consolidate to 2 High Schools in District and Upgrade Central and East [Close South] (Tax Bill Increase = 9%)
- Option 3B: Consolidate to 2 High Schools in District and Upgrade Central and South [Close East] (Tax Bill Increase = 7%)
- Option 3C: Consolidate to 2 High Schools in District and Upgrade East and South [Close Central] (Tax Bill Increase = 9%)
- Option 4: Build 1 New Facility (Tax Bill Increase = 14%)
- Option 5: Build 1 New Facility/Partially Upgrade 1 Existing School (Tax Bill Increase = 10%)
- Option 6: Purchase Lincoln-Way North and Partial Renovation [Close Central, South, and/or East, Bus Students Out Of Our Community, No Promise Of Academic Success and Safety] (Tax Bill Increase = 1%)
