We hear a great deal from the white liberal community in Asheville about racial equality and ways they can work to bring equality to minorities.

What do we not hear about from them? We don't hear about white candidates withdrawing from the race to support minorities and to bring diversity to City Council. By withdrawing from the race, candidates can give more than lip service to racial equality and actually support diversity and minority representation on Council.   Cecil Bothwell and Rich Lee have been especially vocal about their support for minorities and they say they will do everything they can for the minority community, except support minorities and minority communities in the most meaningful way possible.

We call on white male and female candidates to step aside and give their support to minority candidates. Our City Council could have strong minority community members sitting at the decision-making table, there representing minority interests and minority communities after this election.

We ask white candidates to step down from the race and step up their support of minorities running for Council for the betterment of minorities, minority communities and all of Asheville.
