To establish rinse stations at launch areas on Johnson's Pond.

Over the past several years there has been an aggressive onslaught of invasive weeds that are taking over Flat River Reservoir. Known to the locals as Johnson’s Pond, it has been an area for social and recreational activities for residents of Coventry, RI and surrounding areas for generations. It is seven miles long, man-made lake and has summer and full-time residents and supports three campgrounds, which attracts people from across the region. There are many events that get hosted on the pond. Three major events hosted annually on Johnson’s Pond are; the 4th of July Fireworks Display, the Annual Ski Show, and the most recently added “Concert on the Pond” series. For these events, boats, jet-skis, and kayakers gather in the area of the event to enjoy the celebrations!
The recreational and economical loss to this area would be devastating should Coventry loose control of the invasive weed situation. I believe that the Johnson’s Pond community members and users must be made aware of the serious invasive plants problem in our pond that are being transferred from other recreational vehicles and equipment. The installation of rinse stations at launch sites would greatly assist in keeping our weed situation under control.
For the sake of current and future generations of children and their families, community members, and the aquatic inhabitants of the pond, I urge you to sign this petition to install rinse stations at the launch areas of Johnson's Pond.
