Petition Closed

My 17yr old nephew, Rhett Smith, was killed in a hit and run "accident". The driver was reported to have been drinking, doing drugs, speeding, and talking on the cell phone. She not only hit him, she dragged him under her car for some distance. Then she hit a pole, where he finally fell out from under her car. She then went home and falsely reported the car stolen, when this was proven a lie, she then reportedly said that her sister was driving the car. In the end it was proven that she actually did commit the crime. There were several witnesses to this crime. After eight months of being told several dfferent things by the Prosecutor, Washington, IN, he finally called and said that they did not need the families permission to make a deal and that she would only get a maximum of 8 years, minimum of 2 years, only serving 1 - 4 years. This is not right. The family should be able to speak for my nephew, he can not speak for himself! Things must change NOW! We need to toughen all of the laws for DUI's. How many more innocent victims must fall under the wheels of the drunken drivers before the laws are changed!
