Pay Nurses started this petition to Rt Hon Matt Hancock (Secretary of State for Health and Social Care) and

There is growing public opinion that a 1% pay rise for nurses is derisory, insensitive and cruel. It is unworthy of a caring society.

COVID-19 has placed enormous strains on the National economy but this pales into insignificance when compared to the selfless sacrifice and dedication that NHS nurses have given to countless thousands of people over the past year.

Nurses and other front line heath workers, must be meaningfully rewarded, through  bonuses and a salary increase reflective of their work.

The pandemic-related contracts awarded (many unlawfully) by the Government to numerous private companies for provisions of spurious, often non-existent, goods and services, would have been better spent on the front line.

We therefore call on the Government to divert the weekly £350m, saved by leaving the EU, as pedalled by the Prime Minister and his vote-leave colleagues, directly to nurses and other front-line healthcare workers, in recognition of their service.

This would indeed be a measurable Brexit dividend.

This should be debated in full by Parliament and Members encouraged to vote with their conscience.

Having taken back control, give back to the nurses.
