South Lanarkshire Council has agreed to terminate the position of the lollipop lady on Townhill Road. They have deem this as a safe passage for children to walk to school as their reason for termination. The parents at the school greatly disagree with this decision. A high volume of traffic use this route consisting of various types of vehicles and the crossing is at a T-junction. The road is a regular SPT bus route for a popular service within Hamilton. Buses are scheduled to pass at the time the school starts and finishes. A bus stop is at the designated area for crossing. Further to this there is no other safety options for children to cross the road safely, such as a zebra crossing.
