To Merlone Geier Partners:
We have a growing socio-economic problem in our community caused by your vacancy at the Shops at San Miguel Ranch. You need to address this problem. We hope you and Albertson's can work together to find a solution. If not, a political and legal solution will be pursued with the City of Chula Vista.
The former Alberston's location has a continued vacancy going on several years. This void in the shopping center generates problems and draws bad actors into our community. For example, opportunistic drug dealers are peddling drugs at your location, homeless walking around, car break-ins, etc. Not to mention a police sting resulted in a shooting death right in front of the EMPTY Albertson's property that you own. Aside from the criminal element it attracts, the continued absence of an “anchor” store creates an economic drag of your remaining tenants.
We, the community of San Miguel Ranch and citizens of Chula Vista, are asking for a solution. Please find a tenant instead of pocketing the continued revenue from the Albertson’s. A new anchor business at that location will do the following: 1.) enhance the safety of our neighborhood and community; 2.) drive business for current tenants; and, 3.) create jobs.
Merlon Geier, we demand that you work with Albertson's and the community to help fill this space or sell the property to a business owner who will.
Thank you to all the members of the San Miguel Ranch Community, business owners at the Shops of San Miguel Ranch for working together towards the betterment of our neighborhood.
