Why this petition matters

Started by Alejandra Mederos

My dear Brownsville, I am all for making Brownsville the great place it used to be in the 70's and 80's, especially the Downtown area, that since then much of it is deteriorating.  Our town is Special and Unique in it self.  We have CHARRO DAYS, something no other city has.  Because it is our unity between two countries.  We share our customs, traditions, culture and most of all FAMILIES.

This is why I think we should keep that tradition going.  Instead of this pink wall which I see nobody lining up to take pictures at, we should immortalize our tradition and culture.   As a descendant of Mexican heritage, and proud of it I might add, I would love to see our town immortalize our culture more.  This is why Mexico is a beautiful country,  because despite technology they continue to cherish their culture with their music, traditional dresses, music and most of all architecture.

If Houston, TX can immortalize one of Mexico's most beloved singers why can't we?  Instead of this pink wall which honestly means nothing to us(me), I suggest we immortalize Mr. Vicente Fernandez who brought joy, tears and vivid childhood memories with his movies and songs to every ones lives, or at least to mine he did.  Why not even take the time to make this wall into a mural of great artists, who's music made a difference in our hearts like; Vicente Fernandez, Juan Gabriel, Selena, Rigo Tovar or even Marco Antonio Solis . . . . . . .  These are the ones that pop into my head for now but I am sure there are a handful who are deemed worthy of having their image remembered for ever.

I petition to change this pink mural into something that will continue to honor our Mexican heritage and culture. . .
