Revitalising Maori Language through Education Funding

Revitalising Maori Language through Education Funding
Kia Ora,
We are two Macleans College year 13 students wishing to revitalize one of the important national languages of Aotearoa. Currently, Te Reo Maori is not spoken nearly enough in our land and it is classified as endangered. Over the years the Maori Language has deteriorated due to neglect and misunderstanding of this language's importance to our country. We believe the way to revitalize the language is through more funding from the government for Maori education to create more teacher training, programs, and resources for schools. At the moment from recent statistics, the government provides only 7.08 percent (2013-17) of its $12.09 billion dollar budget. We propose that it should be at least 10 percent to help resources, programs, and teacher training that will revitalize the language.
Funding needs to be provided for these aspects as the language can be revitalized through youth and up-and-coming generations. We will use this petition and signatures to create a voice and provide perspectives to the Ministry of Education in hope of creating change.
Help us to make a change!
