I am an ACTIVE and engaging father of 5. At every turn in my life, I have had to fight for the access and rights automatically given to mothers without consideration of the effects on me and my children.

The current family law system often neglects the role of fathers and falls short in advocating for the best interest of the child. This oversight can leave fathers feeling marginalized and hindered in their essential role of being present, supportive, and involved in their children's lives. It’s high time that the system recognizes and upholds the rights of fathers equally, ensuring children's best interests are at the forefront.

A significant issue lies in child custody battles, where the presumption leans heavily towards mothers, often disregarding the father's capability and willingness to provide a nurturing environment. The law should facilitate and enforce shared parenting where both parents are actively involved in their children's upbringing, fostering a balanced and holistic development.

Moreover, the current child support framework is outdated and can sometimes be wielded unjustly, more as a punitive tool than a means of genuine assistance. Many fathers face disproportionate financial burdens without due consideration of their involvement or the burden it places on their lives. This needs to be addressed urgently to ensure fairness and transparency in child support arrangements.

We propose a comprehensive review and reform of the family law and child support systems. This includes:
- Establishing unbiased and equitable custody rules that allow for fair evaluations of both parents’ capacities and contributions.
- Implementing consistent and transparent child support arrangements that consider fathers' circumstances and promote shared responsibilities.
- Offering mediation and counseling services to help both parties reach fair agreements that focus on the well-being of the child.
