The trial of Mr Rolf Harris at Southwark Crown Court.
I respectfully relate to you my deep concerns of the verdicts given by the jury in the case detailed above. I ask that the case be reviewed as a matter of urgency.
..i have always been incredulous that RF was found guilty on all four of the offences he was charged with but, this is the first time i have read about the serious flaws in his conviction. He should at the very least be granted leave to appeal.
Too many celebrities have been taken to court and sentenced on the basis of words but no factual evidence. It's not acceptable that these people are having their reputations and careers ruined over an alleged pinch of a backside some thirty years ago. It's a disgrace.
I do believe Rolf is innocent of the charges, but what concern me regarding many of the charges of 'sexual harassment' against older stars is that we keep treating the crimes as if they happened todays, with today's laws. We seem to forget it was a very different time back then. Comedy was more 'Racy'. A sexy woman might get her bum patted playfully etc. Humor was a lot different. We could laugh at Benny Hill without wring our hands and decrying the 'Sexism' of the jokes.
Cases built on statements that are untrue, inaccurate or otherwise misleading should never get to Court - yet despite the foregoing an innocent man in this case was committed to prison. Even cursory analysis of the facts of this case show the verdict was at best unsound and thus should be urgently appealed. Failure so to do undermines the worthy spirit of the law which in this case appears to have failed - shamefully resulting in the callous and wilfull destruction of a man's reputation.
