Why this petition matters

The Council have changed the road markings on Colquhoun Drive by removing the parking restriction on the north side of Colquhoun Drive, save for double yellow lines at each junction. This is problematic for the following reasons:

  • preventing residents from entering/exiting their driveways. The street is not wide enough for those on the south side to do so with a row of parked cars facing them and those on the north side are restricted by parked cars when turning in or out of their property.
  • parking on pavements is soon to become illegal further exacerbating  the issue referred to above.
  • The street is not wide enough to allow two cars to pass each other when there is a row of parked cars. The street is a regularly used ‘through road’ and this is likely to lead to a build up of traffic at the junctions and possibly out into Drymen Road/Thorn Drive while vehicles wait to pass.
  • Vehicles have been observed travelling at speeds in excess of the 20mph limit on the wrong side of the road in order to avoid parked vehicles which is a safety concern.

We would appreciate the support of residents affected by this issue is seeking an urgent review by East Dunbartonshire Council.
