I was driving down Bolton Street the other day and saw the words on your marquee. "Too blessed to be depressed." I have, family members have, and friends of mine have suffered from depression. I have been a staunch Christian all my life and this sign deeply offends me. I have prayed, my family has prayed, my friends have prayed. This saying on your sign, I believe, creates a wedge between God and the depressed individual. Would your sign say "Too blessed to have cancer, heart disease, or diabetes?" In light of Robin Williams' suicide, the focus is being placed on taking away the stigma of depression so people feel more comfortable getting it treated. Compassionate messages and understanding work so much better than the accusatory nature of your sign. We don't know why people suffer from depression. It may be chemical. It may be situational. But it is NOT because God does not love them or bless them.
