My name is Faisal . On December 4th, 2018, my children, Sabriya and Adil were kidnapped by their mother, Rachel, and their grandmother, Nancy. They took the children out of Oman, to the United Arab Emirates, and finally to the United States.

Rachel and Nancy did not act alone. They were helped multiple times along the way by people in positions of power who are either personal friends of the two or simply guided by a campaign of misinformation. Luke Bronin, the mayor of Hartford, Connecticut, played a pivotal role in getting Rachel, Nancy, and my children into the US. Bronin is a long-time close friend of Nancy, and he and his wife Sara Bronin allied themselves with Rachel and Nancy before investigating the case.

Meanwhile, a local newspaper, the Hartford Courant, published two articles that not only bore misleading headlines but were rife with misinformation and asserted several unverified “facts.” The articles also confirmed the involvement of Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, who, like Mayor Bronin, took the side of Rachel and Nancy, blindly accepting their story at face value. Murphy also helped Rachel and Nancy leave the UAE for the US, despite the American Embassy in the UAE choosing not to interfere in the case over allegations of child abuse, negligence, and suspicion of kidnapping.

I have not seen nor spoken to my children in over two years. I don’t know where they are, nor do I know if they’re in good health. The only number I have is for their grandparents, Nancy and Arnold, who reside in Glastonbury, Connecticut. I have called several times and have never heard back. I have also emailed several family members, including Rachel, but have come no closer to finding my children.

I contacted an international mediation group and they offered to intervene if only to persuade Rachel to let me speak to my children. Rachel denied, claiming that she is “not willing to try any mediation at this stage.”

I have also contacted the Hartford Courant, hoping that they could do a follow-up piece, this time shedding some light on my side of the story. Again, I have received no response.

This isn’t just about getting my children back - though that would be everything to me, and if that were the only thing to come of this, I would be more than satisfied. However, I feel like Mayor Luke Bronin needs to be held accountable. I feel that he has misused the power of his office to grant a personal favor to a friend and, in doing so, aided and abetted a crime. Not only that, but he misled the US State Department.

I would like the Hartford Courant to take responsibility for knowingly printing false information. I was able to shed light on several false claims made in the story, but editor Josh Kovner decided to ignore every bit of my input. It’s no surprise that Kovner is also a personal friend of Nancy and Arnold.

On the 6th of April 2021, I won custody of my children in the UAE after a long and painful battle .Their mother appealed three times and lost every time. And yet I still don’t have my children with me. I am asking the Oman, US, and UAE governments to return my children to their habitual residence.

I feel I have exhausted all of my options. I miss my children. I can’t imagine how much has changed in two and a half years. I’m not asking anyone to take sides. I’m not even asking anyone to believe me. I only wish for my side of the story to be heard, so that we can move towards some form of resolution. Signing my petition is a small effort that could go a long way. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my petition.

في الرابع من ديسمبر 2018، تم اختطاف أولادي صبرية وعادل النعماني واخذهم من قبل أمهم راشيل واتسون و جدتهم نانسي غروت. حيث قاموا بأخذ الاولاد خارج سلطنة عمان إلى دولة الامارات العربية المتحدة ومن ثم الى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.

لم تتصرف واتسون وغروت بمفردهما. بل قد تم مساعدتهم عدة مرات في مسارهم من قبل أشخاص ذوي مناصب وسلطة. إما كونهم أصدقاء لكليهما أو تم توجيههم ببساطة من خلال حملة من المعلومات المضللة.

لوك برونين، عمدة مدينة هارتفورد، كونيتيكت لعب دوراً رئيسياً في جلب واتسون وغروت وأولادي الى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. حيث برونين يعتبر صديق مقرب وعلى معرفة طويلة بنانسي غروت، هو وزوجته سارة برونين تعاونوا مع واتسون وجروت قبل التحقيق في القضية.

في غضون ذلك، نشرت إحدى الصحف المحلية، هارتفورد كورانت، مقالتين لم تحملا عناوين مضللة فحسب، بل كانت مليئة بالمعلومات الخاطئة وأكدت على العديد من "الحقائق" التي لم يتم التحقق منها. وأكدت المقالات أيضاً تورط عضو مجلس الشيوخ عن ولاية كناتيكت كريس مورفي، الذي وقف مثل العمدة برونين، إلى جانب واتسون وغروت و قبَلَ قصتهما بشكل أعمى في ظاهرها دون التحقق من مصداقيتها. ساعد مورفي أيضاً واتسون وغروت في مغادرة الإمارات إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، على الرغم من قرار السفارة الأمريكية في الإمارات في عدم التدخل في القضية بالرغم من تورطهما بسوء معاملة الأطفال والإهمال والاشتباه في الاختطاف.

لم أر أطفالي ولم أتحدث معهم منذ أكثر من عامين. لا أعرف أين هم، ولا أعرف ما إن هم بصحة جيدة. رقم الهاتف الوحيد الذي أملكه هو لأجدادهم، نانسي وأرنولد غروت، الذين يقيمون حالياً في جلاستونبري، كونيتيك.  لقد اتصلت عدة مرات ولم أتلق أي رد. وقد قمت أيضاً بإرسال رسائل عبر البريد الإلكتروني إلى العديد من أفراد الأسرة، بما في ذلك راشيل، لكنني لم أقترب بتاتاً من العثورعلى أطفالي.

قمت بالإتصال بمجموعة وساطة دولية حيث عرضوا التدخل فقط لإقناع راشيل بالسماح لي بالتحدث إلى أطفالي. راشيل لم تقبل ذلك، مدعية أنها "غير مستعدة لمحاولة اي وساطة في هذه المرحلة".

قمت أيضاً بالإتصال بالمسؤولين في صحيفة هارتفورد كورانت، على أمل أن يتمكنوا بالقيام بنوع من أنواع المتابعة، لتسليط الضوء على جانبي من القصة. ومرة أخرى، لم أتلق أي رد.

ما أفعله لا يتعلق فقط بإعادة أطفالي - على الرغم من أن هذا سيعني لي كل شيء، وسأكون أكثر من راضٍ. يجب أن تتم مسائلة العمدة لوك برونين بما أنه أساء استخدام سلطة مكتبه لمنح خدمة شخصية لصديق. وبقيامه بذلك، ساعد على ارتكاب جريمة وحرض عليها الى انه أيضاً ضلل الخارجية الأمريكية.

أحمّل أيضاً هارتفورد كورانت مسؤولية طباعة معلومات كاذبة عن عمد. تمكنت من تسليط الضوء على العديد من الادعاءات الكاذبة الواردة في القصة، ولكن المحرر جوش كوفنر قرر تجاهل كل جزء من مدخلاتي، و ليس من المستغرب أن يكون كوفنر أيضًا صديقاً شخصياً لغروت.

في السادس من أبريل 2021، منحني القضاء في الإمارات العربية المتحدة الحضانة الكاملة لأطفالي. استأنفت والدتهم ثلاث مرات وخسرت في كل مرة.  ومع ذلك، ما زلت لم استرجع أطفالي.  

أطلب من حكومات سلطنة عمان والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية والإمارات العربية المتحدة إعادة أطفالي إلى مكان إقامتهم المعتادة.

أشعر بأنني استنفدت كل خياراتي. أفتقد أطفالي. لا أستطيع أن أتخيل كم التغيير الذي حصل خلال عامين ونصف. أنا لا أطلب من أي شخص أن ينحاز. ولا أطلب من أي شخص أن يصدقني. أتمنى فقط أن يتم الاستماع إلى جانبي من القصة، حتى نتمكن من المضي قدماً نحو حل من الحلول.
