Horse slaughter is brutal and terrifying for horses, and it is not humane. Horses are shipped for more than 24 hours at a time without food, water, or rest in crowded trucks. They are often seriously injured or killed in transit (the carrying of things from one place to another). It isn't an easy fix to do but slowly we can put an end to this problem. Most retired race horses die because they are useless and can not be used anymore. Some that are still alive recover and go to bad homes and they don't treat them well. After racing 19% were rehomed, 18% for breeding and 24% went for slaughter. Imagine you are whipped to go faster. But what if it was more painful because spikes on the end of the riders boot were digging into your flesh.
