RETHINK REFORM BY LETTING GO AND GIVING A CHANCE
Why this petition matters
The penal institution has been problematic for people of color since its origin in America, especially for our men. The unjust practices within these systems that were initially said to be designed to uphold the law , protect law abiding citizens and rehabilitate has become more corrupt, unjust and dehumanizing as the years roll by. Tax payers dollars are used to fund these prison systems that continue to turn a blind eye to the very things the took an oath to protect. The same crimes that riddle our streets are infested through the prisons, mainly initiated by the faculty and staff that they are ran by, yet prisoners who have made one or maybe even two bad decisions in their life have to continue to pay for those decisions for the rest of their lives, with no real opportunity to prove that rehabilitation works. Like Gregory Johnson inmate N33390 who made a bad decision over 30 years ago, when he was barely out of his twenties. Mr. Johnson in his 60's now has survived some of the worst prisons in Illinois, some shut down for their cruel intentional practices, lost family and other loved ones, endure failed health, and struggled to survive throughout this pandemic, begs for a chance to prove that he is not the man he was over 30 years ago, he like many wants a chance to prove the life skills that our tax dollars helped them acquire. signing this petition brings the subject of prison reform back in the lime light for those who need to not only hear, but listen and initiate change, starting with Mr. Gregory Johnson! Governor Pritzker, President Biden and all appointed parties, it is time to take action, and not just continue to give false hope around election time! Show your constituents that you believe in the very system you ask us the believe in!
