Resurrect sports at BYU-Idaho
Why this petition matters
Let’s show our support and encouragement for collegiate sports returning to BYU-Idaho. The students at BYU-I, member athletes and the LDS community in this area are worth it!
Many years ago, sports programs were discontinued at BYU-Idaho during the great transition of becoming a four year university. A lot has changed in the last 20 years and today is a new day and a new time. For the following reasons, we ask the Church Board of Education to consider the comeback of sports at BYU-I.
- So many talented high school athletes want to enjoy the experience of a church university AND college sports but their athletic skills aren't competitive enough for BYU- Provo. They end up having to choose between being surrounded by other members and enjoying a church school, or pursuing their athletic dreams. Opening up the opportunities for these young athletes to compete would be life changing for them, and having these hardworking, high quality young people on campus would help more young people want to attend college here.
- Secondly, having sports would increase the morale at BYU-Idaho. Located in one of the coldest cities in the US, having sports games to attend during the school year would increase student school spirit, morale, and give students and the community something to be excited about during the cold winter months. Young people in the church will be more excited to apply and attend this university for four years!
- Lastly, having collegiate sports at BYU-I will uplift and inspire kids in the Southeastern Idaho community. Through camps, games and student athlete outreach, local kids will have the mentors to work hard, live the gospel and pursue higher education.
In closing, we can all agree that BYU-Idaho is a beautiful and inspired university. We also believe that returning sports to this university would bless so many lives - particularly students and local youth.
