Restore Voting Rights for Pakistani Diaspora
Why this petition matters
Brother and sisters , My name is Nazish Riaz and I am part of Pakistani Diaspora residing in United states. Currently I am working in a fortune 500 company and working with Engineers who are graduates from IV league schools and one major difference is that most of them are still paying their graduate college debts after 10-15 years of their career while I am debt free, not that I was rich but my education was subsidized by People of Pakistan, While most fail to recognize this fact I humbly acknowledge it. I have always tried to repay this debt by dropping a droplet in a 2 billion /year foreign remittance wired every year to their beloved homeland. The notion that overseas Pakistani are any less greener than people residing in Pakistan is a mere rhetoric , All I can say is that if Pakistani living in Pakistan are patriotic then Pakistanis living Abroad are chauvinistic about their beloved homeland and for all the good reason as they define their identity in a foreign culture. Inorder to commend this passion I have chosen to be part of First Pakistan global forum which has one and only mission to strive for the constitutional rights of Overseas Pakistani . In the wake of this journey we are striving for the fundamental rights civil and constitutional privileges to be restored for overseas Pakistani and I strongly urge all my brother and sisters to become part of this movement and implore to the state authorities in Pakistan to reinstate voting rights of overseas Pakistanis
It is the will of the law that there is no distinction between citizens of Pakistan on account of their territorial presence Therefore, we, Overseas Pakistanis cannot and will not have the aforementioned Right to Vote terminated on the whims and wishes of the Parliament or Political Parties as the same would be in violation of the Election Act, the Constitution and the judgments passed by the Superior Courts in this context.
In view of the above, it is requested that your esteemed office may use its political and social influences to put pressure on current government and provide opportunity for oversea Pakistanis to participate in the elections as well so that we may serve our beloved country.
