Restore Power in Diepkloof Zone 2, Dippenaar Street
Why this petition matters

It's that time of the year again, where Eskom starts with its tradition of violating the basic human rights of residents in Dippenaar street, Diepkloof Zone 2 by failing to restore power. The big question remains, is Eskom refusing to restore power because we are peaceful residents who don't block roads and burn tyres. Eskom is beginning to look like an organization that responds to the violence electricity protests.
Eskom made it clear that they would rather have their technicians finishing free coffee than to have them underground restoring power for the people in Diepkloof Zone 2. They have requested the minimum payment of R500 per household and all the proof of payments were submitted to Eskom. However, their technicians are still getting paid for not working, such a typically ANC cadre behaviour.
I was hoping to see some changes with the newly appointed minister of Electricity but here we are still singing the same hate song for ANC and Eskom. We would rather go blind in the upcoming elections than to vote for ANC. Our grandmothers are the ones who benefited from these museum electricity infrastructures, us we are living in the dark.
How is Diepkloof Dippenaar Street Power Outage and #SowetoPowerOutage impacting the residents?
- Each household have paid a minimum amount of R500 as requested by Eskom but you know ANC and Eskom have left service delivery WhatsApp group with our ancestors, so we still don't have power.
- Eskom need to better their infrastructure which were used by our ancestors. The population have since increased so is the demand. Their infrastructures are old and it can't cater for the growing population.
- People who are working from home have to make arrangements to charge their gadgets, and guess what? At the end of the month they are subjected to taxes. Perhaps all the tax money collected from Soweto residents should be excluded from bailing out this incompetent institution which is a milk cow for ANC cadre.
- Our electricity appliances have become useless and shelter for spiders.
- Learners are not able to prepare for their exams and write home works.
- We don't have lights anymore - this may sound basic but imagine walking in the dark streets to your dark house while paying tax and Eskom continue spreading the narratives that Soweto people don't pay for electricity.
Please, I am asking you to sign this petition to push Eskom to restore power in all parts of Soweto.
Thank you for all your help!
