Restore Funding to City Connects -- Keep Mr. Griffin!

On Friday June 24th, the Edison K8 community learned that our City Connects funding is being cut, resulting in the loss of Mark Griffin and his position, and leaving us with only one City Connects coordinator. Over the weekend, Principal Sam Varano sent a memo to the BPS powers, detailing the very clear and incredibly positive impact that Mr. Griffin has on our children's academics and lives.

The memo written by Ms. Varano is clear: the children of the Edison K8 require TWO City Connects coordinators. In a school of 791 students, Mr. Griffin directly serves nearly half the population, providing our children with enrichment and intervention to help ensure that all of our students have the opportunity to succeed. With only one coordinator, it is certain that we will suffer a loss in services, causing some of our children to flounder – or fail.

As members of the Edison community, you are aware of the invaluable services provided by Mr. Griffin.  He watches over our children, and connects those in need to academic help, mentorship, school supplies, and family assistance, to name just a few things. To many parents and students, especially in the lower school, Mr. Griffin is the face of our community, greeting every student warmly each morning, and sending them off with a smile every afternoon. Our children know that they can count on Mark for every one of their needs, be they big or small. He treats students and families with kindness, respect, compassion, and great care. His ability to know all of the children and their parents individually is impressive and reassuring. Simply stated, Mark Griffin is indispensable.

Please join in our fight to save Mr. Griffin's position, and keep him on campus to support our kids!
