The TAINING DRAIN historically allowed water to flow out of FISHLAKE INGS, under the NAB and into the old river bank where it would be pumped away. Sadly as we saw in 2019 2021 and 2022 , this no longer happens - once the Ings are full, the water does NOT flow away effectively,. As the Ings can only be filled once without being pumped directly, the NAB floods, and further floodwater risks flooding the village.

In the past, some sections of the open drain between the Nab and the Old river bed have been replaced by a pipe system, which has then been covered over. These sections of the dyke need to be opened up again, to allow water to flow freely and efficiently which it cannot do at present.  This will allow the Ings to take more water and the Nab to remain passable to essential support and emergency traffic.

The internal drainage board have said they will not undertake this work due to cost.

We the residents of Fishlake, believe this essential work HAS to be done to stop the village from flooding in future. We petition the Internal Drainage Board to prioritise and implement the work before the winter 2022.
