Christine Lininger started this petition to City Government - City Commission The City of Key West and

A beloved 40 year old public pocket park in Key West, known locally as "Dinghy Beach", has been, since January 2020, illegally annexed by the neighboring corporate hotel, Marriott Beachside, 3841 N. Roosevelt Boulevard. Hotel owner, real estate developer and attorney, Robert Spottswood, wrongfully claims the public beach to be his property, but when asked by the State of Florida (FDEP - Division of State Lands) to show actual proof - he can't and thus the State has opined the property does not belong to Marriott Beachside/Robert Spottswood/SH5 - and yet the fence still stands - a symbol of corporate avarice and Robert Spottswood's entitlement.

Dinghy Beach, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike throughout the years, has, through Robert Spottswood's illegal fence, been blocked for access to all but Marriott Beachside guests - contrary to the laws of the State of Florida, the City Directive and simple, common decency towards neighbours and visitors to Key West alike.

The City, allowing entitled Robert Spottswood liberties others in Key West could only hope for, is at 800 days of unnecessary delays and inaction. Objections from Spottswood's friends in government, who willfully support his quasi-theft of public lands (despite their obligations to work for all residents), continue to drag on allowing an unpermitted, illegal fence to remain in place - an open slap in the face to every Key Wester and visitor wishing to use the special little public waterfront property.

Please help "Restore Dinghy Beach" - give access again to all those who wish to enjoy the warm waters of the Florida Gulf with their friends, loved ones and pups and experience first-hand one of Key West's treasured "locals" pocket parks.
