Restore access to Rogerstone Welfare Grounds

Restore access to Rogerstone Welfare Grounds
Why this petition matters
In 2019 exceptionally high river levels damaged the Ebbw riverbank along the path between Jubilee Park and the Rogerstone Welfare Grounds. Because no effort was made to repair the riverbank, further erosion continued and subsequently the path was deemed unsafe and closed in October 2021.
The path provides essential access to the Welfare Grounds from the south, affecting anyone situated in Rogerstone, Bassaleg or Rhiwderin wishing to use the park. The path is also a key segment of the Sirhowy River Walk, and its closure is forcing users to divert along Tregwilym Rd, an additional 20-minute route with narrow pavements and busy traffic. This is not a viable option for pushchairs or those with disabilities.
Communication from the Local Council suggests that repairs were reviewed, but no plans have been put in place to correct the damage and the issue has since been dropped.
This petition is therefore to ensure that access to the Welfare Ground is restored and that a suitable plan for repairs is established and communicated to the local community, within an appropriate timeframe. It will also seek to raise the issue on the agenda of the incoming councillor, whom it is hoped will support this request as the newly elected voice of our community.
