Why this petition matters

Support the American Energy Independence Act of 2022 in the Senate and HR6858, The American Energy Independence from Russia Act, in the House.  Full energy independence should be the official United States Energy policy.  Although, we support an orderly transition to renewable energy sources, the “Green New Deal” is unworkable. Current policy, as advocated by the usual cabal of self-serving global billionaires who fund the Green Lobby, is destructive to American jobs, places unnecessary economic hardship on working class people of all backgrounds and races, and is disruptive to global stability. In short: bad ideas and erratic implementation creates misery and gets people killed.  The Biden’s administrations energy policy encapsulates both and has empowered Vladimir Putin, contributing significantly to the misery caused by the invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian war machine relies heavily on energy exports, specifically oil. The Green Lobby empowered Russia with dirty oil when they prevailed upon Biden to choke U.S. energy production by closing down the Keystone Pipeline, instituting policies that increase the cost of producing refined petroleum products and making it cost prohibitive to transport petroleum products and crude oil domestically. This was no accident. It was by design. The Green Lobby has smart people. They know what they are doing. They just don’t care.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (USEIA), 70 percent of the liquefied natural gas received in Europe in 2021 came from Algeria, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia and the United States (U.S. only started exporting in 2017).  Today, an embargo on Russian energy combined with restarting domestic production would create stable, high paying private sector jobs in the U.S. domestic energy sector and would also produce liquefied natural gas a lower cost, both in terms of carbon emissions and dollars per cubic foot.

Recognizing that energy exports are 40 percent of Russia’s GDP and the U.S. imports approximately three percent of its crude oil from Russia, this should be an easy lift.

The numbers on Russian oil imports vary. According to the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) Association: in 2021, the U.S. imported an average of 209,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and 500,000 bpd of other petroleum products from Russia.  That’s 709,000 barrels a day from Russia. According to USEIA, United States imported an average of 670,000 barrels per day. Either way, at full implementation Keystone, would produce 830,000 barrels per day (USEIA).  To make matters worse, according to Fox News, despite current sanctions, we still import over 160,000 barrels of Russian oil per day and according to Reuters, as of March 1, 2022, the U.S. had not sanctioned Russian oil. All of this is attributable to missteps by the Biden Administration.

The first thing President Biden did upon taking office is close down our energy sector. He halted construction on the Keystone XL pipeline and used Executive Orders to increase the cost of domestic fossil fuel production. Because of Joe Biden the price of gas increased from approximately $2.30 per gallon in December 2020 to $3.75 per gallon by the end of February 2022. For a political party that spends countless millions of dollars virtue signaling about progressivity and helping the disadvantaged, imposing such a regressive tax is the height of hypocrisy. Furthermore, these actions destroyed American jobs and made the US again dependent on imported oil while accomplishing nothing relative to reducing our global carbon foot print.

Good politics is not always good policy. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the tragedy besetting Ukraine. Advocacy for the “Green New Deal” and other bad ideas by stealth communists that have subverted the Democratic Party, has resulted in policies that have brought us to the brink of nuclear war.  Every Ukrainian death can be directly attributed to the Green Lobby here in the U.S. and in Western Europe.

This has to stop.

The American Energy Independence Act of 2022 is both good politics and good policy. It would revitalize domestic energy production in the U.S. as follows:

·      Assert that it is the official policy of the United States to achieve full energy independence and low energy costs for its citizens.

·      Instruct federal agencies to identify and rescind existing regulations that have the effect of reducing American energy independence and bar new rules that reduce energy security or raise energy prices.

·      Evaluate and adjust the regulatory burden on energy companies engaged in fracking to balance environmental safety and cost.

·      Restore the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline after its cancellation by the Biden Administration and ease the process for constructing new pipelines.

·      Defund U.S. contributions to the Paris Climate Agreement.

·      Lower the “social cost of carbon” to $0 per ton to focus government standards on boosting domestic energy production.

As a country we are vulnerable and the world sees it. The very sight of Joe Biden projects weakness. It is a provocation for evil actors to attack this country or any other.  This will not stop with Ukraine. The United States Congress needs to assert itself by supporting U.S. energy independence NOW.

Support the American Energy Independence Act of 2022 or we will vote against you.
