On a trip for groceries there was a mountain of soft plastic that will no longer be recycled. I was so sad-mad I started my first petition. Germany made a law in the early 90s that put responsibility for packaging recycling on companies, symbolised by der grune Punkt, or the green point. It’s calculated based on weight of waste generated, encouraging both reduction and recycling. If you would like to see a better approach to recycling in Australia, please help me chase change instead of bin hope.

Having never done this before, I am thinking I’ll be lucky to get my family to sign. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised, or even better, embarrass my kids by going viral. If I get a decent response I will share this with relevant federal and state ministers, seeking a better system for recycling as much as possible.
