On July 17 2021,  my partner John had an accident with his oxygen at home. He had to spend overnight in hospital. 10 hours after coming home he had a phone call from British Oxygen Company, who supplies his prescription, telling him they were to remove all of his medical oxygen equipment out of our home. This consists of portable oxygen and a condenser by the bed, which he is hooked up to while at home. This was on the decision of the respiratory department at Norfolk & Norwich Hospital.  The representative at the hospital informed us this was down to the fire service. This was untrue! I have an email from the Tactical Commander who said they are not in a position to do such a thing, as they do not have the medical expertise to do make such a decision.

The respiratory department staff are assuming John is smoking which he hasn't done for over 10 years, since he was first diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. He needs a double lung transplant. He is totally prepared to do saliva tests to prove he isn't smoking. This medical team just will not listen to us and do not seem to care what happens to him. No tests have been carried out on John's blood gases to see what sort of consequences this will have on John's life.  On August 5th they then had a meeting to discuss removing the oxygen prescription, although John was not represented in anyway.  But still they are not prepared to reinstate his oxygen. At the moment I am not allowing any access to our home for the equipment to be taken away. I thought the NHS were a caring organisation and I simply cannot understand why this team are being so heartless and have no empathy for a person's well being and life. Surely, if he can prove he's not smoking that should be enough?  He's prepared to travel to the hospital to do saliva tests or whatever proof they need-  whatever it takes, he's obviously prepared to do anything at this stage.We talked on the phone with them, pleading with them to no avail.

We are also trying to raise money to buy him a condenser (like the blue one in the photo that he has by the bed that he's attached to day and night),  if they do not reinstate equipment, but obviously it is very expensive.

John is now a 'shut in', as all of the portable cylinders that used to be delivered twice a week have run out. 

I know he will die because I live with him. I, along with our 2 daughters witness what a terrible time he has on a daily basis even when he has oxygen. I cannot even dare imagine whats going to happen over the next couple of weeks. IF JOHN DIDN'T NEED THIS OXYGEN HE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PRESCRIBED IT FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS!
